Rolling Upgrade

This page describes how to perform an ODP Rolling Upgrade using Ambari.

The process includes starting the Rolling Upgrade, taking the required database backups, pausing the upgrade to upgrade supported Mpacks, resuming the ODP stack upgrade, and verifying the upgrade status and history.

Complete each step in sequence and verify that it finishes successfully before proceeding to the next step.

Step 1: Start the Rolling Upgrade (Rolling)

  • On the Upgrade Options page, select Rolling.
  • Click Proceed.

  • Click YES to confirm and start the upgrade.

Step 2: Take Database Backups (Rolling)

Make sure to take all the Database backups before proceeding with next step.

After completing the database backups:

  • Pause the Rolling Upgrade

  • Mpack Upgrades

From this version onwards, Spark 3, Pinot, Impala, and Kafka 3 Mpack services are supported during the upgrade process.

  • Resume the ODP Upgrade

After the Mpack upgrades complete successfully, resume the ODP stack upgrade.

Step 3: Verify the Rolling Upgrade (Rolling)

Verify that the Rolling Upgrade completes successfully and that the cluster and its services are operating as expected.

Step 4: Verify the Upgrade History (Rolling)

Review the upgrade history in Ambari and confirm that the Rolling Upgrade completed successfully.
