Snowflake Admin

Snowflake Admin surfaces the information Snowflake administrators need to manage the account well — user configuration, spending guardrails, adoption trends, and audit data — so you can follow Snowflake's best practices for resource usage and cost control. The Global Calendar isn't available on this page.

Snowflake Admin has seven tabs: User Config, Guard Rails, User Adoption, Object Trends, Login Activities, Audit, and Unused Resources.

Filters

The Data Source Filter switches between connected Snowflake accounts. Organization Unit and Cost Center filters are also available to refine the graphs, dashboards, and tables on this page.

User Config

Configuration-level data: your Snowflake region, users, admins, and roles.

Widget

Description

Account Info

Account Name, Account Region, Account Version, and Account Admin count.

Total Users and Default Roles

User count by default role, as a pie chart. Every user has a default role (PUBLIC unless otherwise assigned); non-default roles can also be created. Select a role to see its users, with Alert, Username, Default Role, Email, Default Warehouse, Warehouse Size, MFA Enabled, Created Date, Password Rotation Date, and Last Login.

Account Admins

The users assigned the Account Admin role — the highest-privilege role in Snowflake. Snowflake recommends limiting this to two people. Filterable by exact or partial username.

Total Roles and User Count

User count by role, default and non-default, as a pie chart. A user can hold multiple roles, so the sum across roles can exceed your total user count.

Dormant Users

Active versus dormant users, as a pie chart. ADOC considers a user dormant after 90 days without a login or account activation — worth clearing periodically to reduce cost.

Users

Every user, with Alert, Username, Default Role, Email, Default WH, Warehouse Size, MFA Enabled, Created, Password Rotate Date, and Last Login. A warning icon flags users without MFA enabled.

Guard Rails

The spending limits configured on your account, so you can confirm they're set appropriately to avoid overspend.

Widget

Description

Account Info

Account Name, Account Region, Account Version, and the number of active alerts.

Guard Rails

Alert, Level (account or warehouse), Name, Resource Monitor, Statement Timeout, Statement Queued Timeout, and Auto Suspend, for the account and each warehouse. A warning icon appears if no resource monitor is assigned. See Snowflake's documentation on resource monitors, statement timeout, and statement queued timeout for background on each setting.

User Adoption

Correlates user and query activity. Apply the Global Calendar, plus User Role, Warehouse, or Database filters, to scope the data.

Widget

Description

Total Queries / Total Users

Totals for the selected time range and filters.

Queries Per User

Total Queries divided by Total Users.

Average Time Per Query

Average execution time across queries.

Error Rate

(Failed queries / total queries) × 100.

Number of Users Executing Queries over Time

Concurrent active users over time. Select a bar to open Query Studio, filtered to that date and time.

Top 10 Users by Number of Queries

The most active users by query count — useful for spotting power users or systems generating heavy load.

User Adoption Ratio

Active users as a proportion of your total user base, as a pie chart.

Users per Warehouse

User count by warehouse, limited to warehouses selected in this tab's filters.

Users per Database

User count by database, limited to databases selected in this tab's filters. Select a database to open Query Studio, filtered to it.

Queries per Warehouse Size

Query count grouped by warehouse size (X-Small, Small, Medium, Large), reflecting both the warehouse-size and database filters applied. For example, if your x-small warehouses span 10 databases but only 5 are selected in the filter, the chart reflects queries from those 5 only. Select a warehouse size to open Query Studio, filtered to it.

Object Trends

Usage trends for Snowflake objects — databases, schemas, tables, and more — over time, using the Global Calendar.

Widget

Description

Databases / Schemas / Tables / Views / Tasks / UDFs / Users / Roles / Warehouses / Pipes Over Time

The count of each object type in use, over the selected time range.

Clustered Tables / Unclustered Tables / Cloned Tables

Counts for the selected time range.

Login Activities

Login-related data, using the Global Calendar.

Widget

Description

Logins Over Time

Successful versus failed logins over time. A high failure rate can indicate suspicious activity worth investigating.

Logins by User/IP

Login count by user and source IP — useful for auditing logins from unexpected IP ranges.

Logins by Versions

Client versions used to log in, so you can identify users on outdated clients.

Logins by Client Type

Client types used to log in.

Frequent Login Failures

User, Client IP, Client Type, Auth Type, and Failure Count for repeated failed logins.

Audit

User roles and privileges.

Widget

Description

User Roles Audit

User, Roles Granted, and Effective Roles — Snowflake role hierarchies mean a user with a parent role automatically inherits its child roles. Filterable to check, for example, who holds both account admin and system admin.

User Privileges

User, Roles Granted, Privilege, Database, Schema, and Resource Name — granular privilege detail, filterable by database ownership and similar criteria.

Unused Resources

Snowflake features you've subscribed to but aren't using effectively, so you can act on them to reduce cost. This tab doesn't use the Global Calendar, though individual tables and graphs have their own time filters.

Widget

Description

Dormant Users

Users inactive for 90+ days, or new users who never completed their first login 30+ days after account creation. Name and Last Login.

Unused Roles

Roles not assigned to any user. Role and Created Date.

Unused Tables

Tables with no SELECT query in the last 90 days (adjustable). Table, Schema, Catalog, Storage Used, Last Altered, and Last Accessed. Large unused tables are flagged with a warning icon.

Unused Views

Views with no SELECT query in the last 90 days (adjustable).

Deprecated Driver usage

Users on deprecated driver versions. User, Driver, and Version.

Idle Warehouses

Warehouses unused for 30+ days (adjustable). Name, Size, and Last Activity.
