Snowflake Costs
Snowflake Costs breaks down what you're spending on Snowflake — compute, storage, Snowpipe, auto clustering, materialized views, and queries — at both the account and organization level. Acceldata recommends reading Snowflake's credit consumption reference for background on how Snowflake itself prices these components.
All cost data in ADOC is shown in US Dollars (USD); currency conversion isn't supported. If your Snowflake account reports costs in another currency, ADOC displays the same numerical value labeled as USD.
Snowflake Costs has eight tabs: Account, Compute, Snowpipe, Storage, Auto Clustering, Materialized View, Queries, and Organization. Account, Compute, Storage, and Queries show account-level cost; Organization aggregates cost across every Snowflake account connected to ADOC.
Filters
The Data Source Filter switches between connected Snowflake accounts. The Global Calendar filter is available on most tabs to scope data to a time range — it's disabled on tabs where the data isn't time-bound (Account and Storage summary widgets, for example), though individual charts on those tabs may still have their own time filter.
Rolling monthly costs
Several tabs (Account, Compute, Storage) show Minimum, Maximum, Current Month, and Average Monthly cost using a rolling 12-month window rather than a fixed calendar year: the window always covers the most recent 12 months, updating on the first of each month. For example, if today is July 20, "Average Monthly" reflects the average from August of last year through July of this year; on August 1, it shifts to cover September through August. "Current Month" reflects cost incurred so far in the ongoing month, updating daily until the month closes. This applies wherever these four fields appear below, so they aren't re-explained per tab.
Account
Gives you a snapshot of account-wide Snowflake cost. The Global Calendar is disabled on this tab, though some of its own graphs have independent time filters.
Widget | Description |
|---|---|
Account Name | The organization's account name. |
Monthly Cost | Minimum, Maximum, Current Month, and Average Monthly cost (see Rolling monthly costs above). |
Cost for Selected Date Range | Total cost for a date range you select from the calendar. |
Services Cost - Over Time | Cost by service (Compute, Storage, Auto Clustering, Snowpipe, Materialized View, Replication Usage) over the selected range, shown as a bar graph. Selecting a service's color on a given date opens that service's tab. |
Services Cost - Aggregated | The same service breakdown as a pie chart, for the whole selected period. Select a service to open its tab. |
Top 10 Users by Cost & Queries | The ten users with the highest cost and query count. |
Compute
Shows compute cost for your Snowflake account. Warehouse and Global Calendar filters apply to every widget on this tab.
Widget | Description |
|---|---|
Monthly Cost | Minimum, Maximum, Current Month, and Average Monthly cost (see Rolling monthly costs above). |
Cost for Selected Date Range | Total cost for your selected date range. |
Cost per Warehouse | Cost by warehouse, segmented by month within each bar. Selecting a segment opens the Snowflake Performance page, filtered to that warehouse. |
Query Count Per Warehouse | Query count by warehouse, as a pie chart. Selecting a warehouse opens Snowflake Performance, filtered to it. |
Cost over Time | Top 10 users by cost and query count, as a bar graph. |
Daily and Cumulative Cost | Daily cost trend alongside a month-to-date cumulative total, which resets on the first of each month and accumulates through the last day. Selecting a data point opens the Queries tab; from there, selecting a query type opens Query Studio pre-filtered to it. |
Cost by Hour & Day | Cost by hour for each day of the previous week, with daily and hourly totals. Higher-than-normal costs are shaded darker. |
Snowpipe
Shows Snowpipe cost and activity for the selected account.
Widget | Description |
|---|---|
Snowpipe Monthly Cost Summary | Minimum, Maximum, Current Month, and Average Monthly cost over the last 12 months. |
Cost for Selected Date Range | Total Snowpipe cost for your selected date range. |
Cost, Bytes Inserted, Files Inserted Over Time | Cost, data volume, and file count trends over time. |
Top 5 Snowpipes by Cost | The five most expensive Snowpipes. |
Top 5 Snowpipes by Bytes Inserted | The five Snowpipes handling the most data. |
Top 5 Snowpipes by Files Inserted | The five Snowpipes processing the most files. |
Storage
Shows storage cost for your account. The Global Calendar is disabled on this tab, though individual graphs have their own time filters.
Widget | Description |
|---|---|
Storage Cost Summary | This Month, Last Month, and Monthly Average cost — see Rolling monthly costs above for how the averaging window works; This Month and Last Month follow the same rolling logic one step apart. |
Cost for Selected Date Range | Total cost for your selected date range. |
Cost Over Time | Cost broken down by DB_BYTES (table and view storage), FAILSAFE_BYTES (continuous data protection and point-in-time recovery), TIME_TRAVEL_BYTES (historical data access), and STAGE_BYTES (temporary staging area). |
Top 5 Costs by Databases | The five databases with the highest storage cost over the last 12 months. |
Top 5 Cost by Tables | The five tables with the highest storage cost over the last 12 months. |
Top 5 Cost By High Churn Tables | The five tables with the highest storage cost and the highest churn (the ratio of failsafe to active bytes). |
Auto Clustering
Shows the cost of Snowflake's automatic clustering, which reorganizes table and view data to improve query performance without manual intervention. Cost data typically becomes available from the day the data source was added, based on the previous 12 months of publicly available cost data.
Widget | Description |
|---|---|
Cost Summary | Minimum, Maximum, Current Month, and Average Monthly cost (see Rolling monthly costs above). Current Month here isn't affected by any database, schema, table, or time filters applied elsewhere on the tab. |
Cost for Selected Date Range | Additional storage cost from enabling auto clustering, for your selected range. |
Cost & Bytes Reclustered over Time | Clustering cost and data volume over time. Selecting a data point opens Query Studio, filtered to that date. |
Top 5 Cost by Database / Top 5 Cost by Table | The five databases and tables with the highest auto clustering cost. |
Top 5 Bytes Reclustered by Database / by Table | The five databases and tables with the most data reorganized through clustering. |
Materialized View
A materialized view stores a query's results in precomputed form, so repeated queries don't need to be recomputed each time. This tab shows the same structure as Auto Clustering — a 12-month cost summary, cost for a selected date range, a cost trend over time, and top-5 breakdowns by database and by materialized view.
Queries
Shows the cost of queries run against your Snowflake account. Use the Global Calendar, plus Database, Warehouse, or Execution Status filters, to narrow the data.
Widget | Description |
|---|---|
Top 50 Most Expensive Queries | Estimated Cost, Query ID (copyable), Query text, User, Database, Warehouse, Execution Status, and the tables scanned, for the 50 costliest queries. |
Estimated Cost by Query Type | Cost by query type, as a pie chart, based on warehouse size and execution time. Filterable by query type. |
Cloud Services Estimated Cost by Query Type | The same breakdown for cloud services cost, based on cloud service credits consumed per query. |
Query/CS Costs per Warehouse | Query cost and cloud services cost, compared per warehouse. |
Organization
The first tab shown when you open Costs for any Snowflake account. Aggregates cost across every Snowflake account connected to ADOC.
Widget | Description |
|---|---|
Contract Details | Contract Start Date, Contract End Date, and Contract Amount. |
Spend | Expenditure in dollars and as a percentage of the contract amount. |
Forecast | Projected over- or under-spend against the total contract amount. |
Account Info | Total organization account count and the current account name. |
Spend Per Service - All Accounts | Cost distribution by service, across every account. |
Spend Per Account | Cost per account. Selecting a bar opens that account's tab. |
Forecast Per Service - All Accounts | Projected cost by service, across every account. |
Forecast Per Account | Actual versus forecasted cost, per account. If the forecast is $0 or negative, the displayed amount matches actual dollars spent instead. |
