Configure Increased Container Lookback Window

By default, the Containers Increased metric in the YARN Optimizer dashboard uses a one-hour lookback window, calculated from the current time. This window is independent of the selected dashboard time period (date range).

Info

To configure the lookback window, contact Acceldata Support. The overcommittedContainerLookbackWindowSec feature flag controls how far back Pulse queries VictoriaMetrics for overcommitted container metrics.

Query Timeout for High Container Counts

The Containers Increased metric query might time out when processing a large number of containers. The query has been tested with up to 2 million containers.

Workaround: If the query times out, reduce the lookback window by updating the overcommittedContainerLookbackWindowSec feature flag.

Default Value

The default lookback window is 3,600 seconds (one hour).

Pulse uses the default value if the overcommittedContainerLookbackWindowSec feature flag is:

  • Not configured
  • Empty
  • Set to zero or a negative value
  • Set to a nonnumeric value

Info

The configured lookback window is independent of the dashboard time period. Changing the dashboard date range does not change the lookback window used for overcommitted container metrics.

Configure the Lookback Window

To configure the Containers Increased lookback window:

  1. On the Pulse node, navigate to the following directory:
$AcceloHome/config/docker/
  1. Check whether the ad-core.yml file exists. If the file does not exist, generate it by running:
accelo admin makeconfig ad-core.yml
  1. Open the ad-core.yml file.
  2. Locate the config.feature_flags configuration.
  3. Add or update the overcommittedContainerLookbackWindowSecfeature flag within the existing JSON string.
For example, to configure a two-hour lookback window:
config.feature_flags = "{\"isK8Enabled\": false, \"overcommittedContainerLookbackWindowSec\": 7200}";

Info: The example shows only the relevant feature flags. Retain all existing feature flags when updating the configuration.

  1. Save the changes.
